Community needs assessments are a core tool for nonprofit organizations. They help identify unmet needs of a specific target population or geographic area, as well as determine community assets and service gaps. ...but how do you begin? How do you gather and analyze accurate, timely data? How do you use the data collected to develop an action plan? This webinar will introduce you to how to conduct a community needs assessment for your nonprofit, including vital insights into concepts, research tips, techniques, and tools, and available resources. NIU’s Center for Governmental Studies undertakes about 50 research projects, including approximately 5-6 community needs assessments, a year for clients. The leader of our team of survey experts will explore this important tool and technique with you and shed light on the beginning steps, the process, and the end results.
Objectives: Explore the major components of a community needs assessment. Develop knowledge about available public data sources and incorporating public data into your needs assessment. Gain an understanding of techniques to collect and analyze primary data that requires minimal organizational resources. Learn how to develop an action plan based on the needs assessment results.
