Speaker: Bob Marovich, Independent Grant Writer Session #1 - The Cardinal Rules of Grant Writing (Feb 10, 9:00 – 11:00 am) This webinar will cover the basics in effective grant writing. 

These include how to follow the Cardinal Rules of Grant Writing, identify and approach potential funders, craft winning letters of inquiry and full proposal narratives, and other tips and techniques for maximizing the potential for success. Objectives: Learn how to build a lasting relationship with private and corporate foundations Communicate your request with clarity, understanding, and impact Stand out from the crowd by putting pizzazz into grant proposals and applications Learn best practices for when your grant request is declined.

Session #2 - Measuring Program Success with the Logic Model (Feb 17, 9:00 - 11:00 am) In grant writing, “measurement is everything and everything is measurement.” Defining the correct program metrics to track and expressing those measurements in a way that grant makers find compelling can make the difference between award and declination. During this webinar, participants will learn to use a logic model to identify and communicate goals, objectives, and outcomes that meet funders’ interests and help ensure program success. Objectives: Learn the difference between goals, objectives, and outcomes Become familiar with the logic model for program design and measurement Use quantitative and qualitative metrics to ensure successful outcomes Discover how sound metrics help with grant compliance.

Session #3 - Mastering Grant Application Budgets and Other Financial Requirements (Feb 24, 9:00 - 11:00 am) Ask foundation officers what part of a grant request is most often lacking clarity, and they will probably say it is the financial portion. Many a grant request has been declined because program revenue and costs were aligned poorly. This webinar will focus on building better program budgets, knowing what organization financials to include and where to find them, and how to articulate less-than-stellar financial results to a funder. This concluding webinar will also feature a discussion about sponsorships and ways to uncover hidden value in your nonprofit. Objectives: Identify the key ingredients of a program budget Learn how and when to incorporate indirect costs into your program budget Know what financial documents to have on hand and how to interpret them Learn to build sponsorships and other earned income ventures into your plans.
